• How long can I charter for?

Yacht charters are typically offered on a weekly basis, with a minimum charter period of seven days being the industry standard.
However, this can be flexible depending on the yacht’s schedule and the Owner’s preferences. Sometimes shorter charters, like 3 to 5 days, can be arranged, especially during off-peak seasons or if there is an opening in the yacht’s calendar.
Feel free to ask about the options available!

• How are the rates calculated?

If your charter lasts more than a week, the rate is divided by seven and multiplied by the number of days, while for shorter charters, it’s divided by six. Most charters start around noon on the first day and finish by noon on the last day.

Some yachts may also have different rates for high and low seasons, depending on the time of year.

• What is included in the charter rate?

The charter rate includes the yacht with crew service, all the necessary equipment plus the insurance for marine risk, crew employer’s liability and third-party claims.
Additional expenses that will be at the charterer’s expense include VAT, port fees and utilities, provisioning, as well as fuel for the yacht, her tenders and motorized toys.
You may also have some additional costs if you want to start or end the charter at a different location than the yacht’s home port.

• How can I secure the yacht I have selected for charter?

Once the availability of your chosen yacht is confirmed, and terms and conditions are agreed, you will then need to sign the Charter Agreement. A deposit of 50% of the total charter fee is required to confirm your booking. The remaining 50%, along with the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), VAT, and any additional charges, will be due one month before your charter begins.

• What is APA and how is it calculated?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is an additional amount set aside to cover the additional expenses during your charter, such as fuel, food, port fees, and other running costs. It’s usually calculated as 25% to 40% of the charter fee, depending on the yacht. The Captain will handle these funds and provide a detailed report of all expenses before disembarkation. Any remaining funds will be returned to you at the end of the charter, while if the costs exceed the APA, you’ll be asked to settle the difference.

• Is VAT applicable on the charter rate?

VAT is not included in the charter rate, and is applied depending on the cruising area, charter duration and vessel certificates.
The specific tax rates will be outlined in your contract and communicated by your charter broker when arranging the cruise.

• How much should I tip the crew?

Tipping the crew is not mandatory, but it’s customary to leave a gratuity of about 10% to 20% of the charter fee, based on your satisfaction with their service. To ensure that all crew members are fairly recognized, it’s best to entrust the distribution of the tip to the Captain.
This way, every crew member, from deckhands to interior staff, will be fairly recognized for their hard work.

• Can I select the itinerary for my cruise?

Yes, you can select the itinerary for your cruise based on your interests and preferences. SYNTHESEAS will work with the Captain and Crew, who have extensive knowledge of the area, to create an itinerary that suits your wishes. While the plan is flexible and can be tailored to your desires, it will also be affected by weather and sea conditions. If you need more details about attractions or specific locations, just let us know, and we’ll provide all the information you need to plan your perfect trip!

• How do I make sure I have everything I need on board (food, wine etc.)

To ensure you have everything you need on board, we will send you a preference sheet to complete once your booking is confirmed. This sheet allows you to share your likes, dislikes, dietary needs, and any special requirements. We’ll also take note of any allergies, medical requirements, and entertainment preferences.
Be sure to let us know if you are celebrating a special occasion like a birthday or wedding anniversary, so we can help make it unforgettable!

• How can I ensure activities and restaurant reservations are handled for my charter?

Feel free to inform your Charter Consultant about any activities or restaurant reservations you’re interested in, and we’ll coordinate with the Captain and crew to make all the necessary arrangements.
Just share your preferences, and we’ll handle the rest!

• Am I allowed to smoke onboard the yacht?

Smoking inside a yacht is prohibited as per safety regulations.
However, some yachts may permit smoking in designated outdoor areas so it’s best to check with your Charter Consultant for the specific rules of your yacht.

• Am I allowed to use the watersports and scuba diving equipment?

The use of water sports and scuba diving equipment on board can vary depending on the cruising area.
In most countries, an operating license is required to operate certain watercraft like jet skis or wave runners, and there may be age restrictions. Some areas might even restrict the use of motorized water toys entirely.

For scuba diving, a certified PADI license or equivalent is generally required to use the yacht’s equipment. If you don’t have the necessary certification, we can often arrange for an instructor to join you during your charter.

• Am I covered by insurance?

We strongly recommend taking out Cancellation and Curtailment Insurance in case of unforeseen events.
Additionally, guests onboard should also have their own personal accident and medical insurance.
While the yacht’s liability insurance may cover some risks, personal insurance ensures you’re fully protected.
Our team can assist you in obtaining the appropriate coverage for a worry-free charter experience.
Feel free to reach out for help with insurance options!

• What is the cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel your charter, the policy will follow the MYBA contract terms. Typically, if you cancel before the final payment is due, the owner may keep your deposit.

If you cancel after already paying the full fee, the owner may retain the entire amount but will refund the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA).
